Baku, Finance Time. The Embassy of Mexico in Azerbaijan is pleased to inform the public that as part of efforts to spread more knowledges about Mexico, as part of its program of cultural promotion, and in association with Maya Restaurant, Restaurant Gate 25, Intourist Hotel, Fairmont Hotel, Caspian Crystal and Idkhal LLC, will be held the First Festival of Mezcal Tasting from October 27 to November 2, 2015. It also announces that it has issued the last week of November for the First Tequila Tasting Festival.

Mescal, like tequila, is a drink that is obtained from the maguey or agave. In Nahuatl, one of the sixty-eight Mexican indigenous languages, mezcal means "cooked maguey". Mezcalis a traditional Mexican drink, that is close to tequila’s flavor and texture but clearly distinguishable one from another. With a slightly smoky flavor and a sweet aroma is clearly distinguishable mescal from tequila. Mezcal is stored in large wooden barrels for up to seven years. During this time the mezcal acquires a golden color and its flavor is marked by the type of wood. The longer it is aged, the darker the color is acquired and the difference i taste. Depending on its aging, mezcal can be white, rested or aged.

This industry than counts with15,000 producers and 29,000 jobs, produce two million liters per year, and  a million of them is exported byMexico, mostly to the United States, Chile, Spain, UK and Germany.
