As reports Finance Time, referring to the “E-Azerbaijan.info”,  next “Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction” Global Award provides an opportunity for international competition in Azerbaijan.

The competition seeks projects that demonstrate an ability to stretch conventional notions about sustainable building and also balance environmental, social and economic performance. This competition supports initiatives related to construction and infrastructure projects in all countries.

According to statistics, the major part of the world’s population now lives in urban areas, and buildings account for more than forty percent of energy consumption. This creates vital necessity for securing long-term environmental, economic and social viability and pays great importance to efficient construction projects. That’s why Holcim Foundation initiated sustainable development concepts in the construction field by integrating different practices. Young professionals, persons engaged with construction planning and development are the main target groups. At the same time, Holcim Foundation defines 5 “target issues” for application and evaluation of sustainable construction: Progress, People, Planet, Prosperity and Proficiancy.

There are two categories within the competitions. The Holcim Awards category is open for projects at an advanced stage of design with a high probability of execution. Projects from the following disciplines are eligible for this category: building and civil engineering works; landscape, urban design and infrastructure; materials, products and construction technologies. The Holcim Awards “Next Generation” category is open to student projects created within university programs at final year bachelor level or above (including masters and PhD).

Registration for the 4th International Holcim Awards competition will open on July 1, 2013. More information about Holcim Foundation and previous projects are available on www.holcimfoundation.org.
